The Barred Flagtail, also called Five-bar/Fiveband Flagtail is one of several flagtail (Kuhlia)
species with distintive tail markings. Most can tolerate salt and brakish waters; some like fresh and brakish waters. The Barred
Flagtail is marine, native to the IndoPacific Oceans, but can tolerate estuaries.
A schooling fish by day, the body is silvery and the tail has five black bars on white. They reach 40cm long.
The "mugil" name refers to their visual likeness to mullet.
