The Scissortail Sergeant Damselfish is native to reefs of the Indo-Pacific including the Red Sea.
Like the Sergeant Major, it is named after the 3 stripes of a sergeant and, in addition, its scissor-like tail pattern.
Its Latin name indicates that it has 6 broad black bars on a white or offwhite body; it is unclear whether this includes a faint one on the head
or whether the tail counts for two. It grows to some 16cm long.
The bars are not always boldly visible.
