The Sunset Butterflyfish, also called the Dot-dash Butterflyfish, is native to tropical reefs of the
southern Pacific Ocean from Papua New Guinea via Australia (and the Barrier reef) to French Polynesia. It grows to 12cm long.
It is occasionally called the Spotbanded Butterflfish, leading to confusion with the similar Spotband Butterflyfish,
C. punctatofasciatus, with which it sometimes associates and hybridises.
