The Thumbprint Emperor Bream, also called the Blackspot Emperor Bream, is native to the Indian and western Pacific
oceans, from East Africa through to Japan/Australia. Habitat is mainly around coral reefs and in seagrass but it can be found in coastal mangroves.
It grows to typically to 30cm but can reach 50cm long. It has a characteristic black blotch, often with yellow border, on each flank.
Born female, they can transition to male in maturity.
