The Boarfish, rarely called Zulu fish, is the only fish in its genus; there are other fishes also called Boarfish in a
related genus in the same family. It is native to the northeastern Atlantic from Norway to Senegal including the Mediterranean.
It has an extendable mouth and a generally reddish or pinkish appearance. It grows typically to some 15cm for the smaller males
to 20cm (an exceptional 30cm) for larger females. The shape is similar to that of the Planehead Filefish but the mouth is high, level with its
large eyes rather than well below the eyes. It also has a fixed front dorsal fin rather than the trigger fin.
