Squarespot Anthias Pseudanthias pleurotaenia

The Squarespot Anthias, also called Squarespot Fairy Basslet, is native to reefs of the Pacific Ocean from Indonesia to the central Pacific. Males have a pale pink to dark purple square patch on their red (or orange) body and grow to 20cm long.

Females and juveniles are yellow-orange with a couple of purple parallel lines running from eye to flank. All are born female and can transition to male as older adults.
