The Two-spot Basslet, also called Twinspot Basslet, is named not after the two more visible purple spots on the tips of the tail, but after the one or two small, purple spots on the dorsal fin of the male. It is native to reefs of the Indian and Pacific Ocean from East Africa to Indonesia.

Males are red with thin pinkish lines along the body (with one under the eye) and show purple tips to the tail and one or two, sometimes barely visible, purple spots on the dorsal fin. Males grow to 14cm long.

Females and juveniles are mainly pink with a yellow line under the eye, a yellow back, yellow fins and yellow tail. All are born female and can transition to male as older adults.
