Pickhandle Barracuda are native to tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific. They are often found in schools in the day but separate at night to hunt smaller fish and squid.

Like other barracuda, the top jaw is visibly shorter than the lower jaw. They have dark, curved bars on the flank of their silver bodies and a yellowish tail. They grow to 1.5 metres long.
