The Ornate Angelfish, also called the Bellus Lyretail Angelfish, is native to rocks and reefs of the western Pacific
and eastern Indian Oceans. Adults reach 18cm long. The more colourful female, with bright blue and black markings, is shown above.
The male has a yellow-gold lateral and dorsal line on a purplish grey upper and white lower body.
Living in groups, all juveniles are female.
Adults have a hierarchy in order of size with the largest transitioning to become the male of the harem when the current male dies or is removed.
