The Semperi Swallowtail Butterfly, also called the Batwing Swallowtail (other Atrophaneura species are also sometimes called Batwing),
is native to the Philippines. It is a large butterfly; above is the female with a wingspan of 150 mm.
The head and body are bright pinky red with black markings. The underside hind wing of both male and female has two rows of scarlet spots.
Like other Atrophaneura species, the Semperi has an attractive but distasteful (to predators) red body. The female, shown above,
has extensive white markings on the topside. The male topside is plain black with a narrow band of white along the body side of hind wing.
