The Gold Rim Swallowtail Butterfly, also called the Polydamas Swallowtail, is native to Central and South America.
Its body is black with red spots and a red line along the side, unlike its relative, Battus belus, which has large gold spots - see right.
Belus Swallowtail, Battus belus, above, also called the Varus Swallowtail (B. b. varus) is native to northern South America.
The topside is also different to that of the Polydamas.
