The Chinese Peacock Swallowtail Butterfly is native to East Asia, from the Russian Far East and Japan through the Koreas and eastern China.
Male and female differ in appearance. The female, shown, has red curls on the topside hind wing. Both have the shimmering green-speckled iridescence
and red curls on the underside hind wing.
The male (not shown) has iridescent blue with blue curls on topside hind wing.
Both have a flash of peacock blue at the top edge of the hind wing -- obscured by the forewing in the photo
