The Common Palmfly butterfly is native to South and Southeast Asia.
While the butterfly itself is variable, and with different races across its range, male and female have a similar underside and rarely
open their wings at rest. However, the topside differs substantially: the male is dark with blue edges to the forewings and orange edges
to the hind wings; the female mimics the orange (Plain Tiger/Monarch) Danaids.
The TIGER PALMFLY, Elymnias nesaea, is also native to South and Southeast Asia. It is pale blue with dark brown "tiger" stripes on the
rarely-opened topside. The above photo of the Tiger Palmfly was taken by Tony Clancy.
