Numata Longwing Butterfly emerged from chrysalis
The Numata Longwing Butterfly, one of the Heliconian or Longwing family, is native to much of South America. It has a large number of subspecies over its vast range. To make identification more difficult, it also has several different forms, often mimicking the Melinea species of Clearwing/Tigerwing butterflies (Mullerian mimicry).
