The Cydno or Blue and White Longwing butterfly has many forms, subspecies, hybrids and mimics. Several of these
look like other Heliconian species (Mulleran mimicry is common among the unpalatable Longwing family). There is also a stable
hybrid race (with a Postman species) in Colombia given its own species - Heliconius heurippa - possibly the above.
Not alike but coupled.
H. heurippa does not have any mimics resembling it.
The variation above has a Cydno-like, forked white bar and underside hind wing. It may be a Cydno subspecies form or even a Postman-Cydno hybrid
or a Cydno-H. timareta hybrid.
The Longwing above is suspected to be a hybrid of the Cydno and Melpomene Heliconians. It has
the underside hind wing of the Cydno. It is similar to the species H. heurippa, a stable hybrid of Cydno and Melpomene,
but the white part of the bar is narrow and not forked.
A hybrid of Cydno subspecies alithea and Melpomene looks remarkably similar but has the "piano key" border of alithea.
