The Banded Orange Butterfly, one of the Heliconian or Longwing family, is native from Mexico through Central America to Brazil. It is the only butterfly in the
Dryadula genus. It is sometimes called the Orange Tiger. The male, above, is brighter orange with darker, more-defined banding.
The female, above, is a duller orange with less sharply-defined, browner banding.
The adults drink nectar and eat pollen and bird droppings, giving them improved longevity over other, non-Heliconian butterflies.
The caterpillars eat Passion Flower vines.
