Queen of Spain Fritillary Butterfly Issoria lathonia

The Queen of Spain Fritillary butterfly occurs through much of Eurasia from France/Spain and North Africa through to the Far East. It is resident in some areas and a migrant in others, sometimes, though rarely, reaching the southern UK.

The butterfly has a distinctive square shape on its hind wings. The topside is orange with black spots and the underside is orange with large white blobs (see top right).
