Dark Green Fritillary Argynnis aglaja

The Dark Green Fritillary butterfly is not dark green at all. There is a greenish tinge to the dark patches of the underside which gives it the name, distinguishing it from several orange and black fritillaries which are similar-looking from the topside.

In the UK it flies from late June to mid August; the one shown above was in mid August so is somewhat faded.
