The Black-necked Stork, with its beautiful iridescent head, neck and back plumage, is native to southern Asia and Australasia.

Its neck is not black but iridescent green. Males (top row) have dark irises and females (above) have pale yellow irises. Populations are threatened over their range by habitat destruction (particularly draining of marshes and wetlands), pollution, over-fishing and hunting.
