The Lesser Adjutant is a stork native to southern Asia from India to Indonesia's Java. It is a big stork but the smallest of the 3 in its genus at nearly 4 feet (1.2 metres) tall.

It looks similar to the related African Marabou and the Greater Adjutant (also of South and Southeast Asia) with a monstrous bill and a vulturine bare head and yellow neck to stay clean when scavenging. Male and female have a similar appearance. Populations are declining in Southeast Asia through hunting and habitat loss, but may be buoyant in South Asia.
