The Spotted Sandpiper is the American equivalent of the Common Sandpiper. It looks similar in non-breeding plumage (yellower legs) but develops spots in breeding plumage (not shown here). Like the Common Sandpiper, it breeds in the temperate north and migrates to the southern hemisphere in winter. Photos on this page were taken by Alexandra Makhnina in Costa Rica.
