Collared Pratincole Glareola pratincola

The Collared or Common Pratincole is a wading bird which breeds in southern Europe, North Africa and through to Central Asia; it winters in sub-Saharan Africa.

Despite being a wader, it also has long, pointed wings to catch insects in flight. These photos were taken by Alexandra Makhnina in Kazakhstan.
