The Wattled Jacana is a wading bird native to Central and South America.
Jacanas are also known as "Lily Trotters " as their huge feet relative to body size allow them to walk on water-lily leaves without sinking.
They are also known in some areas as "Jesus Birds" since they appear to walk on water.
The larger and more dominant female Jacanas have several (typically 3-4) mates who build the nests, incubate the eggs and raise the chicks;
the female will defend the nests.
