The Little Blue Heron can be found around the coasts of middle America from the US Gulf Coast and western Mexico through
Central America to half way down South America. Thanks to Alexandra Makhnina who took these photos in Costa Rica.
The Little Blue Heron is smaller than some egrets (its Latin name is egretta).
Adults are blue-grey with a brownish/purple upper neck. Juveniles are white. The bird shown is in transition to adulthood.
