The Toco Toucan is the largest of the toucans and is native to northeastern and central South America (mainly Brazil).
Males and females have similar plumage and bills. Their enormous bills enable them to reach and
pluck fruit at the end of high twigs.
The bill, which is extremely light for its size, has a lot of blood vessels and may also assist temperature control.
In addition to the high fruit diet, Tocos will also eat some meat (insects, reptiles, small
mammals and small birds, including nestlings and eggs).
