The Silvery-cheeked Hornbill is native to the eastern part of sub-Saharan Africa.
Both male and female have mainly black iridescent plumage with a white back, thighs and under tail ends, a silvery-grey wash to the face
and an ivory-coloured casque (horn above bill).
The female (above centre and right) has red skin around her eyes. Although the casque on both
(and other hornbills) looks as if it is broken, it isn't - it is how the casque grows.
The casque and the iridescent greeny-black plumage with green metallic sheen. The method of eating
involves picking up the morsel (small fruit, seed, insect) with the tip of the enormous bill and tipping the head back.

Also called the Grey-cheeked Hornbill, it is related to the Silvery-cheeked but has a white lower body and wings.
