Rhinoceros Hornbill male feeding female on nest
Like other Hornbills, the female nests in a tree trunk and she and the male block most of the hole with mud, wood and poop, leaving a small gap for him to feed her and later also the chicks. He defends the nest territory and brings food while she incubates and raises the young (photos of nest at Walsrode Birdpark). They unblock the hole for the chicks to fledge.
