The Rhinoceros Hornbill is native to Southeast Asia.
The male (above) has a striking bill and enormous casque of yellow with red patches.
He also has red irises.
The female (above) is slightly smaller and also has a disproportionately large yellow casque over a yellow and white bill.
She has light irises with pink eyeliner.
Like other Hornbills, the female nests in a tree trunk and she and the male block most of the hole with mud, wood and poop,
leaving a small gap for him to feed her and later also the chicks. He defends the nest territory and brings food while she incubates and raises
the young (photos of nest at Walsrode Birdpark). They unblock the hole for the chicks to fledge.
