The Papuan Hornbill, also called Blyth's and the Plicated Wreathed Hornbill, is native to Papua, New Guinea,
the Solomon Islands, the Moluccas and neighbouring islands.
It is a large bird, up to 3 feet (90cm) in length including the long white tail.
The male (above) has a ginger or blond head and neck, a white or pale blue throat pouch and a greenish black body and wings.
The adult female (above) has a black head and neck, blue eye rings and a whitish or pale blue throat pouch.
The number of "pleats" on the casque of the bill of both male and female, up to eight, is the same as their age
in years, chicks starting with none.
