The White-rumped Vulture, also called the Indian White-rumped to distinguish from the African White-backed
(and previously called the Oriental White-backed) is native to South and Southeast Asia.
It is more white-backed than white-rumped. It is critically endangered with a rapidly declining
population (from several million in the 1980s to less than 10,000 by 2016) through habitat loss and from eating poisoned
wildlife carcasses and livestock carcasses with vetinary medications such as diclofenac (causes kidney failure in the birds).
