The Red-shouldered Hawk, also called Red-shouldered Buzzard, is native to the eastern half of temperate North America,
from southern Canada to northern Mexico, and also to the coastal stretch along California/Baja California.
There are several subspecies through its range. Deforestation has reduced its population to the benefit of the related Red-tailed Hawk that prefers
