The Marsh Harrier, also called the Western or Eurasian Marsh Harrier, is native to much of Eurasia from Spain
in the west to Kazakhstan in the east, some wintering in Africa and India.
Adult male plumage includes white/light wing panels and tail and black wing tips.
Both have pale "shoulders".
Female plumage is brown and less streaky than the male, with brown wings and tail but a white/pale
head and "shoulders".
The wingspan is well over a metre and can reach nearly 1.5 metres. They hunt over marshes and reedbeds.
The Marsh Harrier is particularly noted for its aerobatic courting display in which
male and female perform aerial rolls and hang upside down.
They almost lock feet in mid air in their "circus" display.
