The African Pygmy Falcon, the smallest bird of prey in Africa, is some 20 cm long and 50-70 gm.
Native to east and southeast Africa, prey is mainly insects and small reptiles plus some small birds.
The adult male has a grey back and the female a chestnut back. There are 2 white false "eyespots" on
the back of the head. Juveniles have a dull brown back and a pinkish breast.
