The Forest Eagle Owl, also called the Spot-bellied Eagle Owl, is native to the Indian subcontinent and
much of Southeast Asia. It is related to the similar-looking Barred Eagle Owl (below) of southern Southeast Asia.
The juveniles have lighter plumage.
The Barred Eagle Owl, also called the Malay Eagle Owl, is native to the Malay Peninsula, Thailand, Indonesia and adjacent islands.
It is the direct southern relative of the Forest or Spot-bellied Eagle Owl (above on page).
