The Cockatiel, the smallest of the cockatoo family, is native to Australia.
The male, above, has a yellow face, orange cheek-spot and yellow crest.
The female, above, also has an orange cheek-spot but has a grey crest.
She also has a speckled rump and tail.
Their mild nature has made them favourites in mixed aviaries and as pets.
Plumage of young is the same as that of females.
Baby cockatiels (above right) have pink beaks and pink feet which change to grey as they mature.
