Only the male Pileated Parrot (above left) has a red crown; the female (above right) is mainly green with a red blush on her cheek.
This little chap kept me company sheltering in torrential rain.
Confusingly, they are also called the Red-capped Parrot, a name usually applied to the Australian Red-capped Parrot.
The only species in its genus (others were recently moved out to Pyrilia/(Gypopsitta) on new DNA evidence),
it is native to south-eastern Brazil, north-eastern Argentina and east Paraguay.
