Tahitian Blue Lorikeet Vini peruviana

The Tahitian Blue Lorikeet or Lory, is, as its common name suggests, native to Tahiti (not Peru as indicated by its scientific name). This beautiful but endangered blue bird used to be more prevalent on some 2 dozen islands around Tahiti but is now on some half a dozen. Its decline is mainly due to introduced predators and diseases. These photos were taken by Iggino Van Bael and are used with his permission.
