The Choco Conure/Parakeet,
Pyrrhura pacifica, above, was classified as one of 5 subspecies of the Maroon-tailed Parakeet.
The recent split of the Choco, west of the Andes, from the other subspecies east of the Andes is not accepted by all authorities.
It is native to the Choco region on the Pacific coast of southwestern Colombia and western Ecuador.
Plumage is similar. On the Choco (above left/central), like the Maroon-tailed (above right),
the upper side of the tail is green then maroon and the underside is black.
Many pyrrhura conures have maroon tails.
The Maroon-tailed Conure, Pyrrhura melanura,
is native to north and northwest South America.
