The Black-capped Conure, also called the Rock Parakeet, is native to Peru, Bolivia and western Brazil.
As with other Pyrrhura conures, male and female have similar plumage.
In addition to the black cap, it has a pretty, lace collar.
The nominal subspecies' range is central Peru. The fledglings shown above centre and right are nominal Black-capped.
The other subspecies, shown on this page, also called the Sandia Conure (P. r. sandiae) has the remainder of range.
The collar feathers are lighter-edged and more pointed than the nominal.
