The Patagonian or Burrowing Conures, native to southern Argentina, southern Chile and Uruguay, are unusual for parrots in that they burrow into cliffs for nesting. They are also known as Cliff-dwelling Conures or Parakeets.

There are 3 subspecies: the largest of all conures (up to 48 cm long), the Greater Patagonian (above/below), Cyanoliseus patagonus bloxami/byroni, with its full white necklace.
