The Golden-shouldered Parrot, named after the yellow band on the wing of the male, is a rare turquoise-coloured
parrot native to Queensland, Australia. The male also has a black cap and a red vent. A very similar-looking relative,
the Hooded Parrot of Northern Territory (see link below), has a larger black cap and gold wing patches.
The Golden-shouldered hen is also similar to that of the Hooded Parrot, but has less blue on her face
and chest and the same off-white brow band as the male.
They dig burrows in termite mounds to nest - the mounds keep the eggs warm, ventilated and protected
from most predators.
Juveniles resemble females.
