Water Rail Rallus aquaticus

The Water Rail breeds near water in temperate Eurasia and North Africa.

They are mainly resident all year but birds from Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia migrate south to the Middle East and Africa for winter.

The Water Rail has a white under-tail like its larger relative the Moorhen.
