The Grey-winged Trumpeter is like a long-legged pheasant and comes from the northeast of South America (from Guiana to the northern Amazon).
Its relatives, the Pale-/White-winged and the Dark-winged Trumpeters come from other parts of the Amazon Basin. Male and female have similar plumage and size.
The iridescent blue/green jewels of plumage on its breast stand out against its black head and front, while its back and part of its wings are light grey.
As its name suggests, it (the male) has a loud, trumpeting alarm call and flocks are encouraged/tamed by natives to act
as guard dogs while also eating undesirable insects and possibly snakes.
