The Grey-winged Trumpeter is like a long-legged pheasant and comes from the northeast of South America (from Guiana to the northern Amazon). Its relatives, the Pale-/White-winged and the Dark-winged Trumpeters come from other parts of the Amazon Basin. Male and female have similar plumage and size.

As its name suggests, it (the male) has a loud, trumpeting alarm call and flocks are encouraged/tamed by natives to act as guard dogs while also eating undesirable insects and possibly snakes.
