The Koklass, although usually called a pheasant, is more related to grouse. The word Koklass comes
from the bird's call. They are native to mountain forests of southern Central Asia, northern India, Mongolia and China
and have many subspecies over their range. They are tree dwelling and good fliers.
The breeding male has elongated plumes on his head like rabbit ears or horns and colourful body plumage.
The female has brown plumage with cryptic patterns.
