The Khivan Pheasant is a subspecies of the Common Pheasant native to central Turkestan
(Uzbekistan, southern Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan and adjacent areas).
Like the nominal Common Pheasant (and the well-known Ringneck Pheasant), the cock pheasant has a
beautiful iridescent blue-green-purple head, neck and chest and a scarlet, heart-shaped wattle. He also has green
iridescent spots on his front and flanks. The hen is a plainer light brown and very like the female nominal subspecies.
The male has white wing coverts but generally doesn't have a white neck ring (unlike the one
in a southern Kazakhstan park in the link below).
