Elliot's Pheasant Syrmaticus ellioti

Elliot's Pheasant, also called the (Chinese) Bar-backed Pheasant, is native to southeastern China. The attractive male, above, can reach over 30 inches (80 cm) long including his long, barred tail.

The female, as with most pheasants, has a cryptic pattern in browns for camouflage when nesting and rearing young.

It has suffered from habitat loss and hunting.
