The Black Crowned Crane, also called the African Crowned Crane, has darker charcoal grey plumage than its Grey Crowned relative
(B. regulorum), especially on the neck, and has pink on the lower part of its bare white face patch (instead of red at the top).
It is native to west and east sub-Saharan Africa.
Was the crane the model for the flower (strelitzia) or vice versa?
