As it's common name suggests, the Baikal Teal comes from Siberia; its Latin name
means beautiful duck, which certainly applies to the male in breeding plumage as shown.
It was moved from Anas genus to
Sibirionetta in 2009 and is the only duckin its genus.
As with most ducks, the female is much plainer and well-camouflaged on the nest.
She can be distinguished from the Common Teal by white patch on her chin/cheek and the white spot near the beak.
