The Redhead duck is native to North America and is related to the similar-looking American Canvasback
and the Eurasian Common Pochard.
The drake has orange-yellow eyes rather than the red eyes of the larger Canvasback (which has a black bill
and an angular head) and of the Common Pochard (which has a similar black-tipped blue-grey bill).
While the eye colour of the drake clearly distinguishes him from the Eurasian Pochard,
the female Redhead looks very similar to her Eurasian counterpart.
Eclipse male.
Most breed in more northerly areas of North America and migrate to more southerly areas or Mexico/Central
America for the winter.
