Baer's Pochard breeds in eastern Russia and northeast China, wintering in Southeast Asia.
Like other pochards, it will dive and swim under water to evade predators, but will then
fly some distance from the danger. It feeds under water mainly at night.
Shown above is the male with a white eye. The breeding male looks more like a brown, drake Scaup.
Shown above is the female, looking similar to a Ferruginous Duck.
The duck is endangered due to hunting and wetland destruction.
