The Cape Barren Goose is a most unusual goose native to the southern coast of Australia and offshore islands.
Named after one such island, the goose has a gland that enables it to drink salt water.
It has a lime green cover over its nostrils and black bill and a white crown.
The pink legs and grey-black flippers.
They rarely swim.
The unusual plumage with hearts, spades and diamonds.
They form small flocks outside the breeding season. Juvenile birds have greyer legs, a mottled
grey-white cap and the yellowy-green bill is less bright.
